Softball swept by RaginŐ Cajuns By: Richmond Vernon
The Troy Trojans softball team looked to be back on its winning ways last week, taking two victories in a row against Northwestern State before being beat twice by conference opponent Louisiana-Lafayette.
Troy will look to finish strong heading into the post-season, with only two conference games remaining on the schedule.
The Trojans first beat Northwestern State last Wednesday by a score of 9-1, with three separate players nabbing two hits and senior Allison Moore getting the win with five innings of one-run pitching.
Troy again beat Northwestern State later the same day but this time needed a comeback in order to do so.
Junior Rocky Paige's five hits led the team and provided enough offensive firepower to help deliver the Trojans a late game win, 10-9.
'In that second game we were behind the entire game, and despite a poor performance on defense, this team found a way to win, and they did it with big hits in the clutch,' Troy coach Melanie Davis said.
'I'm real proud of that,' she added.
The Trojans could not carry that momentum into their series with Louisiana-Lafayette the following weekend.
Troy fell 4-2 in the first game of the series with the No. 25 ranked Ragin' Cajuns.
Troy was run-ruled 9-1 in the second game of their three game series, with sophomore Ashlyn Williams allowing 13 hits and only adding two strike outs to her tally.
The next game proved to be closer, but Troy again fell, this time taking the Ragin' Cajuns nine innings before succumbing 4-3.
Sophomore Hillary Hughes sent one out of the park, and Moore had another solid showing.
Troy has four games remaining on their schedule, next taking on UAB in a double header at home and then another home double header against conference rival South Alabama.
The Trojans will then head into the off-season on May 6 for Sun Belt Conference Tournament play.
