Both men’s and women’s golf were in action over spring
break with a strong No. 7 finish from men’s side at the JSU Grub
Mart-Young Oil Intercollegiate.
“They played rather poorly early on in the first round,”
Troy coach Matt Terry said. “But by the end they improved by nearly
30 strokes to finish strong.”
Michael McGrady led the way for the Trojans, finishing with his second
straight 69 last Tuesday winning the individual championship by one
stroke.
“I’m always extremely proud when a player wins an individual
title,” Terry said. “But, he wants to see his team right
there with him.”
McGrady finished at 2-under 214 with scores of 76, 69 and 69.
Despite McGrady’s showing, Columbus State won the team title at
894.
Jake Brodhead tied for No. 13 at 227 with rounds of 75, 78 and 74.
Jay Harris tied for No. 40 at 235 with rounds of 84, 79 and 72.
Jordy Hayden and Wes Parker had similar rounds, both finishing tied
for No. 55 at 241.
“It was definitely a positive way to end the tourney,” Terry
said, “especially getting ready to head to Middle Tennessee next
week.”
The Trojans head to Middle Tennessee Monday for the MTSU Aldila Intercollegiate.
On the women’s side, the Trojans finished No. 12 in the Samford
Intercollegiate over the break.
Charlotte Sundqvist led the way for the Trojans, finishing tied for
No. 25 with a 235 and her low round at a 75.
Kaley Branton and Desirae Zine both tied for No. 48 with a 237.
Sarah Weldon shot the lowest round of her career with a 78 to finish
at No. 84 with a 272.
“We play 12 or 13 good holes and then make some large mistakes
at different times,” Terry said. “Hopefully we can correct
those before we go to Southern Miss.”
The Trojans head to Hattiesburg, Miss. Monday for the USM Lady Eagle
Invitational.
